Lloyd's musical career began at an early age when he learned to play a variety of instruments by ear. By 10 years he was playing the mouth organ, accordian, piano, pedal organ, mandolin-guitar, and concertina. He was also accompanying the school choir and playing 'extras' at country dances attended by his parents.

Later he received formal tuition which culminated in obtaining ATCL Teacher's Diploma. He then taught music for over thirty years, combining this with much entertainment work, plus some broadcasting and special functions. He made his first record in 1969.
